Master an Endangered Art: Exclusive Passementerie Workshop at Kit Kemp's Ham Yard Hotel
A rare opportunity to learn the endangered art of tassel-making with one of the UK's last remaining passementerie makers
I'm thrilled to invite you to something truly special – an exclusive, one-off passementerie workshop at the stunning Ham Yard Hotel on Saturday, January 17th, 2026. As one of the UK's last remaining passementerie makers, I'm passionate about sharing this beautiful, endangered craft with craft enthusiasts.
Why This Workshop is So Special
Passementerie – the intricate art of creating decorative trimmings and elaborate tassels – is recognised as an endangered heritage craft in the UK. This centuries-old tradition, once reserved for royal palaces and the grandest interiors, risks disappearing forever. That's why I've dedicated my career to preserving these exquisite techniques and sharing them with others who appreciate fine craftsmanship.
The Perfect Setting for Our Creative Journey
Ham Yard Hotel, with Kit Kemp's iconic design aesthetic, provides the most inspiring backdrop for our workshop. The hotel's distinctive artistic flair and attention to design detail perfectly complements the artisanal nature of what we'll be creating together.
What We'll Create Together
During our full day together, I'll guide you through designing and crafting your own contemporary key tassel using authentic materials and traditional tools that I've collected over years of practice. You'll learn:
The fascinating history behind this endangered craft
How to select colours and materials that speak to your personal style
Traditional techniques using the same tools craftspeople have used for centuries
The secrets of creating perfect proportions and finishing touches
Stories from my journey preserving this heritage skill
Every participant will leave with a one-of-a-kind piece they've created with their own hands – something truly special that celebrates both tradition and your individual creativity.
A Day of Learning, Creating, and Connecting
Our workshop begins at 10am with coffee, giving us time to get acquainted before we dive into the craft. I love sharing not just the technical skills, but the stories and traditions that make passementerie so captivating. You'll hear about my collaborations, the challenges of preserving endangered crafts, and why this work matters so much to me.
At lunchtime, we'll pause for a delicious two-course seasonal lunch in Ham Yard Restaurant – a perfect opportunity to discuss your creations and share your thoughts on the morning's work. Then we'll return to our craft, putting the finishing touches on your unique key tassel.
Join Me for This Special Day
The workshop runs from 10am to 4:30pm and costs £110 per person, which includes all your materials, morning coffee, and that lovely two-course lunch. All I ask is that you bring an apron to protect your clothes – we'll be working with glue, threads and tools, and I want you to feel comfortable getting hands-on with the craft.
This really is a rare chance to learn from one of the few people still practicing this beautiful art form. I'm looking forward to sharing my passion with you and helping you create something truly special while contributing to the preservation of this endangered British heritage skill.
I'd love to welcome you to Ham Yard Hotel for what promises to be an unforgettable creative experience. Spaces are limited, so please book soon to secure your place in this exclusive workshop.
