Would you like to learn the art of passementerie? One of the rarest and most special of all textile crafts, passementerie is the art of creating ornate ribbons, trimmings and fringes.

Whether you're interested in interior design, accessories, or fashion, this 2 part live, online masterclass will teach you the introductory passementerie weaving skills you need to create your own fabulous hand woven trimmings bursting with colour, texture and pattern. Traditional passementerie designs are interpreted for contemporary frame loom weaving in this masterclass that is designed for beginner and experienced weavers alike.

Using simple equipment and materials, you will create 4 different hand woven passementerie designs in the form of a sampler, each design exploring a different technique. After this workshop you will be able to use your new found skills to create all manner of hand woven ribbons and trimmings.

No expensive or unusual materials and equipment is required - just a simple frame loom, some yarns and some ribbons or cords. A comprehensive materials & equipment list will be emailed to you once you have booked your place.

Prior to the Masterclass, you will receive a comprehensive learner pack (emailed to you as a PDF) detailing the designs we will be making during the classes.

  • Yes, absolutely—you can use a different type of loom. While the class is taught on a frame loom, the techniques and designs translate beautifully to other looms such as shaft looms, inkle looms, and rigid heddle looms. You’ll just need to have a good working understanding of how your loom operates. Please do drop me a message if you plan to use a different loom, and I’ll be happy to send you the appropriate warping instructions.

  • My Online Passementerie Masterclass is not recorded, in order to respect the privacy of all participants and to remain fully compliant with GDPR guidelines. However, you are always very welcome to email me after the class if you need any help or guidance while creating your designs—I'm here to support you every step of the way.

Massive thanks to Elizabeth for her incredible course this weekend... She is patient & knowledgeable and working to carry on a craft that not many people do by hand anymore...I really appreciated Elizabeth’s step-by-step instructions and patience as she taught us this endangered hand craft.
